Expedition Event: Capel Curig, 29th-30th October

Are you going on a big trip?

Planning an expedition?

Need an expedition Guide?

Want to plan your own expedition but have no idea where to start?

Whatever stage you are at, come along to our FREE Expedition Event in Capel Curig, Snowdonia to speak with kit specialists and experienced climbers who are all eager to share their experiences.

From our very own staff, top brand representatives, qualified activity providers through to British Mountain Guides. We will also have some well-known (and travelled!) faces joining us:

Rab athlete, Jon Gupta will be with us in the shop all day Saturday and Sunday to answer your questions and share his experience on over 100 expeditions including the highest summits on all seven continents. In 2022 Jon became the first British climber to have guided the worlds 5 highest mountains. His notable ascents include Ama Damblam (13 times), Kilimanjaro (30 times), Mt Blanc (14 times), along with multiple ascents of Mera Peak, Island Peak, Denali, Peak Lenin, Makalu, Aconcagua and expeditions to Iceland, Greenland, Namibia, Jordon, Ecuador and Bolivia.

British Mountain Guide Adrian Nelhams will be available throughout the day on Sunday to share his colossal expertise in ice climbing and expeditions including two special workshops on expedition planning and looking at pathways to achieve the goal you are aiming for. Adrian’s mountaineering and climbing experience includes over a hundred first ascents of virgin summits and rock climbs in Kyrgyzstan, major routes in the Mt Cook region of New Zealand, new routes in Alaska, rock climbing El Capitan in the Yosemite Valley, peaks in Nepal and 'Grande Courses' in the main alpine areas. With a passion for icefall climbing around the world and a number of first ascents in the Canadian Rockies and Swiss Alps Adrian is Director of the historic International School of Mountaineering.

Montane athlete, Emily Law will also be attending. Emily is a climber based in North Wales. She spends every second out on the sea-cliffs or at the crags across Snowdonia. As a teenager she fell in love with the outdoors and several years on it has become one of her greatest passions. Emily produced a film all about her journey with the harder mental battles with falling and failure she has faced to progress in her climbing. This exploration has led her to understand the mental resilience she has and how it is one of her biggest strengths in climbing. Read more about Emily, here.

The golden age of Himalayan mountaineering, from the mid 1970s to the ‘80s, brought forth a generation of radical young climbers. With tiny budgets and high ambitions they pioneered light and fast Alpine style expeditions on mountains such as Jannu, Nuptse, Everest, and K2. In High Risk, Brian Hall recalls the outrageous adventures of eleven of his climbing friends who risked, and too often lost, their lives to stand on some of the world’s highest peaks at a turning point in mountaineering history.
